Sarah Burton to join the Australian Volleyball Academy in 2021

The Australian Volleyball Academy (AVA) is excited to announce that Sarah Burton will be joining its AVA athlete Cohort in Canberra for 2021.

Sarah began playing volleyball in year 7 for her school team, Penrhos College, which has produced several talented young volleyballers in recent years.

Over the last 4 years Sarah has represented her state in both indoor and beach volleyball and has also represented her state in netball and athletics.

“I’m super excited to be joining the AVA in 2021 and be involved in a full-time training environment with high level athletes and expert coaches” said Sarah at her 2021 AVA signing.

“I’m keen to see how far I can take my volleyball and what the future brings.”

Women’s AVA Head Coach Marty Collins is excited for the opportunity to work with Sarah in 2021, saying, “We are very pleased to have Sarah as part of our AVA squad for 2020”.“Sarah seems to possess a rare ability of making those around her better and you will often see her play the same no matter the situation”.

Sarah heard about the AVA through her involvement in the Volleyball Australia junior development program camps. She also recently graduated year 12 from Penrhos College and will begin a Bachelor of Finance in Canberra at the Australian National University in 2021.

Sarah’s volleyball inspiration is Australian indoor and beach volleyballer Tara West. Just like Tara, Sarah hopes to one day represent Australia in volleyball.

Sarah is set to begin her journey with the AVA in January 2021. “I personally am really looking forward to what Sarah can achieve in Volleyball training in a full-time environment”, added Women’s Head Coach, Martin Collins.

The primary objective of the Australian Volleyball Academy (AVA) is to identify and develop Olympic potential athletes for Volleyball and Beach Volleyball. It is the High-Performance Development Program for volleyball and beach volleyball athletes who aspire to reach the elite level of their sport.
