Australia’s Chris McHugh and Damien Schumann have taken out the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour event in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
McHugh and Schumann defeated Austria’s Christopher Dressler and Alexander Huber in the gold medal game 2-0 winning 21-16, 30-28.
The Australian pair topped the podium for the second time in two weeks after taking out the Asian Championship in Thailand last weekend.
Chris McHugh says it’s great to win in consecutive weeks; “Another great result for our team and beach volleyball in real challenging conditions here in Phnom Penh, especially backing up after last week’s Gold at Asian Champs. Solid building block for the year from us and all the Aussie men’s teams here.”
Damien Schumann says it was an important victory; “Super happy to be able to back up last week’s gold medal result. Massive shout out to everyone at Volleyball Australia and the beach volleyball community at home for all their support especially our wives.”
Coach Andrew Schacht says it’s been a rewarding time; “Thanks for the support from everyone back home. It was a massive two weeks in really challengingly conditions for all our guys. They all fought and dug deep when it counted. Couldn’t be prouder of them all.”
Chris McHugh and Damien Schumann will now return to Australia to prepare for the FIVB World Tour event at Coolangatta Beach.
