Clancy aiming for her 5th AVC Beach Volleyball Championships title

Australia’s Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar face the AVC Beach Volleyball Championships in Maoming, China, as one of the favourites.

Taliqua and Mariafe head into the tournament on the back of a bronze medal at the 4 Star FIVB event in Xiamen. Taliqua won the AVC Beach Volleyball title three times with Lou Bawden, and in 2018, with current partner Mariafe.

They are one of six Australian teams competing this week in the Asian Championships.

In the women’s, Mariafe and Taliqua will be joined by Nikki Laird and Becchara Palmer and the combination of Jessyka Ngauamo and Phoebe Bell. For Jessyka and Phoebe, this will be their first time competing as a team at the AVC Championships.

In the men’s, three times AVC champion, Chris McHugh, lines up with Zac Schubert. Damien Schumann and Cole Durant, will also team up. They finished in the top five last year. And the team of Max Guehrer and Paul Burnett will be competing at their first AVC Championships.

Australia will be fielding a maximum of six teams this week with three men’s and three women’s teams competing.
