The Australian Volleyball Academy (AVA) is excited to announce that Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) athlete Chaz Pucko will be joining its 2021 athlete Cohort in Canberra.
The Craigslea State High School student began playing volleyball in year 7 through the school’s well renowned volleyball program.
Chaz has since gone on to represent his state in both indoor and beach in events around Australia.
“I am most looking forward to being able to compete with and against other athletes in a focussed environment as well being able to learn from some great coaches” said Chaz on his 2021 AVA signing.
“I am keen to learn what I can and to put those lessons in place to improve my game and represent my sport and country at the highest level possible”.
Men’s AVA Head Coach Brendan Garlick is looking forward to working with Chaz in 2021, saying “Chaz is such an exciting young prospect for the AVA and the Men’s program”.
“His versatility on both the beach and indoor court will make him an asset to the integrated training group”.
Chaz heard about the AVA through his time training with the QAS and his Queensland volleyball coaches.
Chaz’s favourite volleyball memory was playing for Australia at the Arafura Games in Darwin in 2019. Chaz reflected on this experience, saying “It was a fantastic tournament, both indoor and beach, representing my country and an opportunity to learn from some great coaches.”
Chaz is set to begin his journey with the AVA in January 2021, he is keen to start his training and working toward his aspiration of one day playing on the Beach Volleyball World Tour.
“I’m looking forward to seeing Chaz perform at our beach events this Summer; he has enormous potential”, added Men’s Head Coach Brendan Garlick.
The primary objective of the Australian Volleyball Academy (AVA) is to identify and develop Olympic potential athletes for Volleyball and Beach Volleyball. It is the High-Performance Development Program for volleyball and beach volleyball athletes who aspire to reach the elite level of their sport.
