Golden Girls Triple Treat!

TRIPLE TREAT OF GOLD FOR AUSTRLIAS DYNAMIC BEACH DUO

Australia’s Helloworld Travel Beach Volleyroos Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar have struck gold for a third straight tournament!

This latest Gold strike has come in Indonesia taking out the 6th South Sumatera Governors Cup by defeating Kazakhstan’s Mashkova/Samalikova in a devastating straight sets 21-14, 21-18.

Clancy said after the win “It was really good hustle today from both of us. It got a bit close there in the end but we came together as a team, got the serving back in our game and brought the hustle again and we got the win”.

While the score might suggest they did it comfortably Coach Simon Naismith says “the girls had to show resilience, trust and world class skill yet again to get the job done”.

“We were challenged by Kazakhstan today, especially in the second set by their serve but we stayed strong when down 12-16 to our game and turn the set around to get another great win”

Just three tournaments together for three straight Gold Medals and all in crushing style.

Artacho del Solar always believed they had it in them “We knew we could do it right from the start we had trust in each other and we had a goal”.

The formidable duo have now won 16 straight matches, playing 32 sets with zero losses.

The Gold medal haul began earlier this month in Japan in Clancy/Artacho del Solar’s first tournament together in five years.

They took out the Osaka Open to kick off their Asian tour with ease before going on to China for a blistering win at the World Tour Qinzhou Open.

Naismith added “ It’s been a great tour by this team to be undefeated. With a lot of travel between tournaments, short turn arounds and challenging weather conditions the girls showed a remarkable and consistent hunger to win.”

Australian women’s Volleyroos also had a strong showing from veteran Louise Bawden who teamed up with Jessica Ngauamo for the Asian tour. They finished 5th going down in the Quarter finals to the eventual Silver Medallist’s Kazakhstan 0-2 17:21, 19:21.

Australia’s mens team of Josh Court/Zachery Schubert also went down swinging for a 5th place finish losing in the Quarters to Iran 21:18, 11:21, 10:15

The other Aussie mens team of Paul Burnett/Cole Durant also got to the Quarter Finals before bowing out to Qatar’s Cherif/Tijann 0-2 18:21, 14:21.

Volleyball Australia President Craig Carracher said it was a complete team effort "Congrats to coaches, athletes and most important to the entire Volleyroos Team, male and female helping each other, training with each other, supporting each other on and off the court."

All the Aussie teams will now return to Australia to prepare for the domestic season and hopes of Commonwealth Games selection.

Clancy/Artacho and Australia’s number one mens team of Chris McHugh/Damien Schuman will be available to media on Tuesday 11am at Manly Beach as they prepare for Volleyfest in late November.
